Fire investigators continue to probe the cause of last weekend’s two-alarm fire at 165 Brackett St. in which a dog died.

The fire broke out at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the building across from the Reiche school in the West End. Based on interviews and photographic evidence, investigators concluded that the fire broke out on a second-floor rear porch.

Three of the apartments in the three-story building were damaged. There were no injuries. The dog’s remains were found in a third-floor apartment.

Fire investigators met with insurance investigators Wednesday and Thursday. Initial indications were that the fire was accidental, a result of an electrical malfunction. However, new information has led investigators to hold off on reaching a definitive conclusion so the cause remains under investigation.
