Cape Elizabeth native Clare Egan hit 17 of 20 targets Thursday in the women’s 15-kilometer biathlon, which combines cross-country skiing and shooting, at the season’s first World Cup event in Oestersund, Sweden.

The top finisher among four U.S. skiers, Egan was 44th of 102 starters in a time that was four minutes, 52 seconds behind winner Dorothea Wierer of Italy. The other American skiers placed 80th, 84th and 91st.

Egan hit all 10 of her targets in prone position and missed three in standing. Wierer was one of only four women without a miss.
