LEWISTON — Morgan Cahill scored 17 of her game-high 27 points in the second half to lead St. Joseph’s to a 61-54 women’s basketball win over Bates on Thursday night.

Cahill shot 13 of 16 from the field, grabbed 16 rebounds and dished out three assists for St. Joseph’s (6-2), which outscored Bates 19-12 in the third quarter after being tied 25-25 at halftime.

Emily Benway added nine points for St. Joseph’s.

(8) KENTUCKY 72, LOUISVILLE 54: Makayla Epps made 10 of 11 shots for the Wildcats (8-0) en route to a season-high 24 points in the annual battle for Bluegrass women’s basketball supremacy at Lexington, Kentucky.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

BATES 89, ST. JOSEPH’S 63: The Bobcats opened with a 30-11 run in the first 10 minutes of the game and cruised past the Monks in a nonconference game at Lewiston.

Josh Britten scored all of his 15 points for Bates in the first half as it took a 49-21 lead at halftime.

Jerome Darling led all scorers for the Bobcats (4-2) with 17 points and grabbed five boards and five assists from off the bench.

John Crawley was the top scorer for St. Joseph’s (3-6) with 15 points.

Ben Malloy tossed in 12 points off the bench.

NORTHERN ESSEX 81, SMCC: Jordan DeRosby scored 17 points and Grayson Waterman added 14 for the Seawolves (5-9) in a loss to the Knights (9-4) at Haverhill, Massachusetts.

(4) IOWA STATE 83, IOWA 82: Monte Morris hit a runner with nine seconds left as Iowa State (8-0), rallying from a 20-point deficit, scored the last nine points at Ames, Iowa.
