The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says a man tried to abduct a Raymond boy waiting at a school bus stop Tuesday morning.

Upon arrival at his school, the 12-year-old reported to school officials that an unknown man had tried to convince him to get in his vehicle. School officials immediately reported the incident to authorities.

According to the sheriff’s office, the boy was waiting for the school bus near the intersection of Route 85 and Plains Road in Raymond. He reported that a vehicle pulled up next to him and the driver stated that the boy’s family had experienced a medical emergency and that he needed to get in the vehicle. The boy refused and began to walk away. The vehicle then drove away with no further contact.

Police describe the vehicle as a newer, full-size GMC cargo van, white in color. There were dark tinted window in the rear doors, but no other windows besides the front occupant compartment area were tinted. The only other distinguishable feature was multiple antennas on the van’s roof.

The driver was described as a white male, middle-aged, bald and his face was unshaven.

Anyone who may have witnessed this event or has information about the van or suspect, should contact detectives at 774-1444, ext. 2112.
