PITTSFIELD — Pittsfield police and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a string of pellet gun vandalism cases in the downtown area on New Year’s Eve.
Pittsfield police Sgt. Timothy Roussin said Sunday that three or four windows were shot at, including at People’s United Bank, Dysart’s service station and Shorey’s Funeral Home.
“Unfortunately, they targeted some of the largest windows at several businesses, including two banks and a gas station, and although the totals aren’t in yet, the damage estimate is hovering between $5,000 and $10,000,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post on New Year’s Day.
Roussin said two Pittsfield police officers are investigating. Officer Michael Cote is in the process of getting surveillance video from local businesses for possible clues.
“Where it’s a holiday, he’s been having a difficult time getting that information, and there are probably 12 hours or so of surveillance video to go through,” according to the sheriff’s department’s Facebook post. “If he gets anything useful, he will pass it along, and we will post it up.”
Roussin said no suspects in the vandalism spree have been identified so far.
