BRUNSWICK — A crash shut down Middle Bay Road for several hours after a Jeep hit a utility pole Thursday morning.

The crash was reported at about 9:30 a.m. at 17 Middle Bay Road.

Brunswick Police Lt. Thomas Garrepy said Nancy Keltner, 75, of Brunswick, was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee east on Middle Bay Road when police believe the glare of the sun obscured her vision, causing her to drift off the right shoulder of the road and hit a utility pole belonging to Fair Point Communications. She was not hospitalized.

The Jeep couldn’t be removed immediately because the pole had snapped and there were guide-wires across the hood of the vehicle. There was a concern that removing the vehicle may cause the rest of the pole to come down.

The downed wires were live and crews couldn’t cut power because some of the primary wires were connected to the Parkview Medical Center grid. The hospital had a procedure taking place and didn’t want to disrupt power.

The road was closed for more than two hours before the vehicle could be towed away and the pole replaced.
