BATH

Bath police have issued a warning about recent “smash and grab” incidents in the city that have left a number of vehicle owners purseless.

The police department’s Facebook page warns the public that there have been several incidents, including two Tuesday night, involving a suspect or suspects breaking out car windows to steal purses that have been left in plain sight.

Most of the incidents have occurred at the Bath YMCA.

Police urge folks to hide and lock their purses and valuables in the trunk.

“Also please report any suspicious activities,” the warning adds. “For example, you see someone that appears to be looking inside multiple vehicles.”
