All lanes of the Maine Turnpike in Scarborough have reopened after crews finished clearing a multi-vehicle crash that left a tractor-trailer truck jackknifed and in a ditch during the early afternoon.

The crash occurred southbound between Exit 42 in Scarborough and Exit 36 in Saco around 12:40 p.m., the Maine Turnpike Authority said on its website.

The accident left the southbound lane blocked and vehicles were in the median and on the right shoulder, according to the turnpike authority.

The Maine State Police posted a picture on its Twitter account at 1:37 p.m. showing the truck with the tractor portion buried in the snow in a ditch alongside the highway and the trailer straddling a metal guardrail.

For more than an hour after the crash, the left southbound lane was blocked. By shortly before 4 p.m., all lanes were cleared and traffic returned to normal, according to the turnpike authority.
