Westbrook police arrested two males suspected of robbing and assaulting the owners of Tom & Jerry’s Car Wash on Monday.

Police arrested Jamie Earl Brown, 38, and Russell Ware, 41, on Thursday, both on charges of robbery, criminal restraint, and theft of a firearm, and are currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail.

According to a police press release, additional charges will likely be forthcoming.

Westbrook police said the owner of the car wash, at 307 Main St., was assaulted by the two men as the business was closing at roughly 9 p.m. Monday. According to the press release, Brown and Ware bound the owner and his wife, ransacked the business and fled with cash.

Roberts said Thursday that a citizen’s tip was the turning point in the case.

“Information provided by the citizen lead investigators to identifying both suspects within hours. Additional evidence was collected tying both men to the crimes,” she said.

The arrests are a result of collaboration between the Westbrook Police Department, the Portland Police Department, and the Maine Violent Offender’s Task Force.

Roberts said the robbery was a random crime, and there was no link between the victims and the suspects.
