WELLS — It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Madeleine L. Murphy, 83, of Wells, who died Friday morning, Jan. 29, 2016, at her residence.
She was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1932 to Bridget Mills and Patrick Joseph Murphy.
Madeleine spent her career working as an international research librarian with Shell Oil in Houston, Texas, before retiring to her beloved Maine. She will always be fondly remembered for her great generosity, brilliant mind and loving spirit.
Madeleine was preceded in death by: her brothers Harry, Paul, Frank and Gerard, and her sisters Eithne and Marie.
Visiting hours will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells.
