The Lady Lakers posted a particularly strong performance at Friday’s meet, taking second to Fryeburg. On the boys’ side of the action, Poland finished first, while the Gentlemen Lakers earned sixth. Eight teams competed.

LRHS coach Mark Snow described his kids’ progress. Keyana Prescott, for instance, had “a great rebound performance” after struggling a week earlier. Prescott set a new school record in the Pole Vault: 6-foot-6, also a new PR. She likewise hit a new PR in the 55 Hurdles.

Hannah Chadwick set a new school record as well on Friday, in the junior division High Jump, where she leapt 4-foot-8, which automatically qualified her for States.

Catherine Christiansen auto-qualified for States in the 55 and hit the provisional mark in the 200. “All year, Catherine’s goal has been that automatic mark in the 55 and she has worked hard at attaining it,” said Snow. Christiansen set three PRs on Friday.

Dakota Stover set three of his own PRs on Friday, too – for a total of 13 PRs in the past four weeks, a number Snow called “unfathomable.” Stover bested himself in the Long Jump, the 55 and the 4×200 Relay split.

Matt Stenger also reached a trio of new high-watermarks for himself. “He reminds me of Sergey Bubka,” Snow said, “the Russian pole vaulter in the 80s and 90s who broke the world record over 30 times.”

Hannah Parsons improved her own best times in the 55, the 200 and the 4×200 Relay. “I’m tempted to enter a 4×200 Relay team at the State Meet so she can run one more time,” Snow said.

Kennedy Brake put up the Lakers’ real breakthrough performance, however, setting PRs in the 400, the Long Jump and the 4×200.

“I was most impressed at the end of the meet when Kennedy volunteered to run the Relay when a few girls were unable to,” Snow said. “Kennedy was exhausted from her 400, and I was surprised when she opted to replace a teammate. She overcame the fatigue and managed a solid PR.”

The Lakers have the Western Maine Conference championships on Friday, Feb. 5, before States on the 13th.
