Mild temperatures have resulted in the cancellation of two more ice fishing derbies.

Saturday’s youth derby at Range Pond State Park in Poland, to be hosted by the Sebago Lake Rotary Club, has been called off because of concerns over ice safety. So has a free fishing clinic and derby at Range Pond State Park on March 12, which was to be run the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

The derbies would have been among the first winter events held at the state park, which is open in the winter for the first time this year.

The two cancellations follow a last-minute decision to call off last weekend’s Sebago Lake Rotary Derby. Sebago Derby Director Deb McPhail said the town of Raymond would not let the club stage the derby at their traditional staging area at Raymond Beach because of poor ice conditions. The 246 ice fishermen who registered for the derby were invited to take part in prize drawings on Sunday night, McPhail said.
