Edgecomb Community Church, United Church of Christ, will be observing Holy Week with the following services:

• Palm Sunday, March 20 — Celebrate Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem with the distribution of Palms. Worship Service at 9:30 am

• Maundy Thursday, March 24 – 7:30 p.m. service of worship will celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, and observe the Service of Tenebrae, the gradual diminution of light.

• Easter Sunday, March 27 – An Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 6:30 a.m. at Fort Edgecomb, 66 Old Fort Road, Edgecomb.

• At 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary of Edgecomb Community Church, greet the risen Christ with a service of word and praise.

LISBON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Lisbon United Methodist Church, 14 School St., Lisbon Falls, will be conducting special services during Holy Week beginning Sunday, March 20.

• Palm Sunday Service will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a children’s processional of palms.

• On March 24, Maundy Thursday service begins at 7 p.m. featuring an open Communion Table to all attendees celebrating the Last Supper.

• The church will be open for Friday Vigil, March 25, from noon until 3 p.m.

• Saturday, March 26 — 5–6 p.m.: traditional baked bean supper

• Sunday, March 27 — Easter breakfast buffet at 8:30 a.m. before the Celebration Service at 9:30 a.m. An Easter egg hunt for the children will take place following the service.

BRADBURY MOUNTAIN SERVICE

An Easter Sunrise Service will be held March 27 on the peak of Bradbury Mountain in Pownal at 6:15 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Thomas and Pastor Sandy Williams officiating. There will also be a service under the shelter at the foot of the mountain with the Rev. John Wentworth and the Rev. Ray St. Pierre for those unable to climb or in the First Parish Congregational Church in Pownal in case of severely inclement weather. Coffee and donuts will be served at the Pownal Church following the service. Sponsored by the First Parish Congregational Church in Pownal, the First Baptist Church of Freeport, St. Charles Borromeo Church, and the North Pownal United Methodist Church, anyone is welcome to attend.

DAY’S FERRY CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

Day’s Ferry Congregational Church will hold its annual Tenebrae service on Maundy Thursday, March 24th at 7 pm. The service will include a brief meditation from Rev. Dr. Alan Baughcum and the sacrament of Holy Communion by intinction. There will also be readings from scripture tracing Jesus’ crucifixion and burial as sanctuary lights are dimmed. Dr. Paul Althouse will lead the congregation and choir in singing special musical selections.

Day’s Ferry Congregational Churchin will celebrate Easter on Sunday, March 27 at 10 a.m.

HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE FOR BISHOP DEELEY

Holy Week will begin with Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord on March 20. It is the final week of Lent, culminating with the Sacred Triduum, during which Catholics commemorate the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, the Passion and Death of Christ on Good Friday, and the Resurrection on Easter Sunday. The Sacred Triduum celebrates the forgiveness of sins for all humanity and the gift of everlasting life to all who believe in Him.
