Alfie Michaud is returning to his alma mater to serve as a volunteer goaltending coach for the University of Maine men’s ice hockey team, the school announced Wednesday.
Michaud, 39, was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA hockey tournament in 1999 when he led Maine to the national championship, guiding the Black Bears to 3-2 overtime victory against New Hampshire.
Michaud played briefly with the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks and for several AHL teams during a pro career that included nearly a decade in Europe. He also served as a goalie instructor for the Portland Pirates in 2014-15.
