FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The Patriots have signed veteran receiver Nate Washington.

New England announced the move Thursday. The 32-year-old played last season with the Texans and was an unrestricted free agent. Originally signed by Pittsburgh in 2005 as an undrafted free agent, Washington spent three years with the Steelers, winning a pair of Super Bowl rings. He also played five years with the Titans.

Washington has started in 107 of his 159 career games and has 458 catches for 6,954 yards and 44 touchdowns.

KEVIN TURNER, a former Patriots and Alabama football player, has died after battling Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was 46.

Turner helped lead the Crimson Tide to a national championship in 1992 and was drafted by the Patriots. Turner played for New England from 1992-1994 before playing for Philadelphia from 1995-1999. He was diagnosed with the neurological disease ALS in 2010.

Longtime defensive lineman Julius Adams, who played defensive end for the team from 1971-1985 and then again in 1987, has died. He was 67 years old.

Adams played 206 games in 16 seasons for the Patriots, third all-time behind Tom Brady (225) and offensive tackle Bruce Armstrong (212).
