BIDDEFORD — Nicole Carvalho had three goals and an assist Wednesday to lead the University of New England to a 10-6 victory against Curry in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women’s lacrosse opener.

UNE (5-3) scored the first two goals, from Korinne Bohunsky and Katie Cawley, before Malorie Knowlton answered for Curry with 18:34 left in the first half.

The Nor’easters grabbed control by scoring four of the next five goals to take a 6-2 halftime lead. Bohunsky and Olivia Carpenter had a pair of goals, and Cawley added a goal and an assist for UNE.

Knowlton scored four goals for Curry (5-3). Abby Carnevale and Lauren Carroll also scored.

Courtney Kendall stopped 11 shots for UNE. Annie Douglas had eight saves for the Colonels.

BOWDOIN 21, ST. JOSEPH’S 4: The Polar Bears (4-4) opened with a 9-0 run and cruised past the Monks (6-2) at Brunswick.

Hannah Hirshfeld scored three of her four goals in the first half as Bowdoin took an 11-2 lead.

Lindsay Picard had four goals, and Emma Beecher added three goals and three assists as Bowdoin got goals from 10 players.

Jackie Wilson had a pair of goals for St. Joseph’s. Elyse Caiazzo and Kat Gadbois also scored. Caiazzo’s goal was the 100th of her career.

Erin Morrissey and Kayli Weiss combined for five saves for Bowdoin. Megan Baker and Meghan Fullarton combined for nine saves for the Monks.

MEN’S LACROSSE

KEENE STATE 14, COLBY 10: The Owls (4-3) scored five unanswered goals to open the second half, pulling away from a halftime tie and defeating the Mules (2-6) at Waterville.

Keene State led 3-2 after the first period before the 4-4 halftime tie.

Hunter Arnold had four goals and a pair of assists, and Tyler McKelvie added three goals and three assists for the Owls.

Kevin Seiler led the Mules with four goals. Austin Sayre and Colton Michel each chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Mathew Howe stopped 15 shots for Keene. Dylan Rothenberg had 17 saves for Colby.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 17, CURRY 8: Dan Auger and Mitch Mullin combined for eight goals and three assists as the Nor’easters (6-4) defeated the Colonels (8-1) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference opener at Biddeford.

Auger scored twice as UNE took a 7-3 halftime lead.

Mullin finished with four goals and an assist, Andrew Curro had two goals and two assists, and J.T. Oliver and Tom Luttrell each scored twice for UNE.

Matt Serra and Brandon Flaim each had three goals for Curry.

David Pearson and John Dusel combined for eight saves for UNE. Josh Teller and Shane O’Brien totaled 17 saves for the Colonels.

BASEBALL

ENDICOTT 4, SOUTHERN MAINE 3: Mike Casciano scored the winning run on Matthew Paola’s bases-loaded fielder’s choice with two outs in the ninth inning as the Gulls (8-5) rallied past the Huskies (7-5) at Beverly, Massachusetts.

Southern Maine grabbed a first-inning lead when Sam Dexter lined a double to right-center to drive in Nick DiBiase.

Endicott answered with a pair of runs in the third on a fielder’s choice and an RBI single by Nick Berno.

USM took a 3-2 lead in the sixth on a run-scoring double by Jake Glauser and Paul McDonough’s RBI single.

McDonough went 3 for 5 with a run.

SOFTBALL

MAINE, RHODE ISLAND SPLIT: Alyssa Derrick and Rachel Harvey hit back-to-back homers in the seventh inning as Maine (11-12) won 9-0 in the opener at Kingston, Rhode Island.

The Rams (11-13) won the second game, 10-9.

In the opener, Maine scored three unearned runs in the first inning, then stretched its lead with a pair of runs in both the third and fourth.

Harvey finished 3 for 3 with three RBI and three runs, and Felicia Lennon went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBI.

Molly Flowers and Nikki Misner combined to hold Rhode Island to five hits.

In the second game, Rhode Island scored three runs in the seventh inning to rally past the Black Bears.

COLBY SWEEPS UMAINE- FARMINGTON: Katie McLaughlin led off the seventh inning with an inside-the-park home run to right field, the first at a new softball field, as the Mules (5-5) came away with a 2-1 victory against the Beavers (1-12) in the opener at Waterville.

Colby completed the sweep by winning the second game 11-1 in five innings.

In the opener, McLaughlin also scored the first run for Colby by walking on four pitches, advancing on a Robin Spofford walk and eventually scoring on a wild pitch.

UMaine-Farmington evened the game on an RBI single by Moesha Harrington in the second.

In the second game, the Mules received homers from McLaughlin, Skylar Labbe and Paige Hartnett.
