PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Henry Curran came within two outs from becoming the first University of Southern Maine pitcher in 30 years to throw a no-hitter as the Huskies beat Rhode Island College 10-0 in the first game of a college baseball doubleheader on Sunday.

USM (12-5, 3-0 Little East) completed the sweep with an 11-7 win over the Anchorman (9-12-2, 3-0) in the second game.

Curran walked seven, but did not allow a hit until Tyler Rains singled with one out in the seventh.

In the second game, the Huskies rallied for seven runs in the ninth to win.

BOWDOIN SWEEPS BRANDEIS: Luke Cappellano scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning and Bowdoin won the first game of a doubleheader against Brandeis 2-1 in Brunswick.

Evann Dumont-LaPointe had four RBI as the Polar Bears (11-7) completed the sweep of the Judges (8-13-1) with a 10-5 win.

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. SWEEPS UM-PRESQUE ISLE: Caleb Burpee hit a two-run single to lift the Seawolves (11-14) to a 5-4 win over the Owls (8-18) in the first game of a doubleheader in South Portland.

Burpee drove in the winning run in the second game as well, a 3-2 SMCC win.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS RIVIER: Taylor Reuillard hit a two-run homer in the first game, and Noah McDaniel drove in three runs in the second game, as the Monks (11-8) swept Rivier (6-16) 5-1 and 9-2 in Standish.

SOFTBALL

RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE SWEEPS SOUTHERN MAINE: Lauren Duvall had four hits, two RBI and scored four runs as the Anchormen (10-8, 2-2 Little East) earned a pair of wins over the Huskies (14-6, 1-3).

RIC won 5-3 and 12-11 in Providence, Rhode Island.

TUFTS SWEEPS BOWDOIN: Samantha Siciliano drove in three runs to lead the Jumbos (13-6, 6-0) to an 11-6 victory in the first game of a NESCAC doubleheader.

Christian Cain’s two-run homer helped Tufts to an 11-3 win over Bowdoin (12-9-1, 3-3) in a game shortened to five innings at Medford, Massachusetts.

TRINITY 13, BATES 9: Courtney Erickson’s two-run double capped a four-run fifth as the Bantams (12-5) beat the Bobcats (0-18) in Hartford, Connecticut.

Before the game, Bates and Trinity resumed a suspended game from April 2, which Bates lost 13-5.

ST. JOSEPH’S SPLITS WITH RIVIER: Meghan Elliott and Jennifer Murphy each had two-run singles as the Monks (10-10, 5-3) scored seven runs in the sixth to win the second game 9-4 and earn a split of their GNAC doubleheader with Norwich (5-11, 5-1) in Standish. The Cadets won the opener 6-2.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND SPLITS WITH ROGER WILLIAMS: Abby Lambert carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and the Nor’easters (15-5, 6-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference) beat the Hawks (11-13, 5-3) 3-0 in the second game of a doubleheader in Bristol, Rhode Island. Roger Williams won the first game 11-3.

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. SWEEPS MASSASOIT C.C.: The Seawolves (4-10) swept the Warriors (0-5) in a doubleheader, 18-6 and 14-4, in Brockton, Massachusetts.
