ORONO — Logan Fullmer scattered 12 hits and the University of Maine scored five runs in the second inning on the way to a 6-3 win over Maryland-Baltimore County in the opener of an America East baseball doubleheader Saturday at Mahaney Diamond.

Colin Ridley finished with three hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Black Bears (9-23, 1-6). Jake Osborne added two hits, two RBI and a run scored.

In Game 2, Maine’s John Arel took a four-hit shutout into the seventh inning, but Connor Hax’s three-run homer gave the Retrievers (16-15, 6-4) a 3-1 victory.

Maine took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a home run by Brett Chappell.

USM, WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE SPLIT: Jake Glauser scored on a bunt single by Matt Bender with two outs in the ninth inning, capping a three-run rally as Southern Maine (17-6, 5-1 Little East) earned a 3-2 win over the Colonials (10-11, 3-3) in the second game of a doubleheader in Gorham.

USM starter Dalton Rice’s no-hit bid was broken up by a leadoff single in the eighth. Reliever Jake Dexter gave up a two-run single later in the inning.

Paul McDonough started the ninth-inning rally with a single and scored on Sam Stauble’s sacrifice fly. Brandon Martins doubled home Sam Dexter with the tying run.

In the opener, Frank Vartuli’s sacrifice fly capped a four-run fifth inning for the Colonials in a 4-3 victory.

Nick DiBiase had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for USM.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS JOHNSON & WALES: Grayson Jennings pitched six hitless innings as the Monks (14-9, 5-1 GNAC) completed a doubleheader sweep with a 2-0 win over the Wildcats (16-7, 4-2) at Standish.

Jennings struck out four and walked three. He was relieved in the seventh by Corey McNamara, who allowed a leadoff single but then got a double play and a strikeout to record the save.

Scott Betts drove home Taylor Reuillard with a sacrifice fly in the second inning, and Max McCoomb homered in the fifth.

In Game 1, McCoomb’s RBI single with two outs in the eighth inning gave the Monks a 3-2 win.

McCoomb finished with two hits and scored a run, and Joey Murphy and Jared Gagne each drove in a run for St. Joseph’s, which took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Johnson & Wales forced extra innings with two runs in the sixth.

BOWDOIN, COLBY SPLIT: Colby (7-14, 3-2 NESCAC) scored six runs in the second inning and rolled to an 8-1 win in the first game doubleheader at Brunswick.

The Mules got RBI doubles from Tyler Starks and Matt Garcia and a two-run triple from Ryan Quinn during their big inning.

Zach Ellenthall went 4 for 4 with a pair of RBI, and Andrew Currier, Dan Scaplar and Garcia each added a pair of hits for Colby. Soren Hansen pitched a four-hitter.

In Game 2, Bowdoin (13-10, 3-6) scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings to salvage a split with a 5-2 victory.

Bjorn Hansen went 2 for 5 with a pair of RBI, and Joe Gentile also had two hits for the Polar Bears. Brandon Lopez earned the win, allowing six hits and one earned run in seven innings.

MEN’S LACROSSE

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 16, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 13: Justin Bard and Jon Bota scored four goals apiece to lead the Golden Bears (10-3, 6-0 Commonwealth Coast) over the Nor’easters (9-6, 4-2) at Biddeford.

Tom Luttrell, Mitch Mullin and Andrew Curro recorded three goals apiece for UNE, which erased most of a 12-4 halftime deficit. Dan Auger added one goal and four assists.

NORWICH 11, ST. JOSEPH’S 5: Josh Jenkins scored three goals to lead the Cadets (5-7, 3-1 GNAC) past the Monks (5-8, 2-3) at Northfield, Vermont.

Michael Finn scored two goals for the Monks.

KEENE STATE 25, SOUTHERN MAINE 5: Tyler McKelvie got all of his five goals in the first half as the visiting Owls (8-3, 3-0 Little East) built a 14-5 lead and cruised past the Huskies (5-5, 0-3) at Gorham.

Bryan Rotatori added three goals and two assists, and Rob Hart also scored three times.

Nate DelGiudice notched a pair of goals for the Huskies. Seth Wing, Austin Watts and Keegan Smith were the other USM goal scorers.

WESLEYAN 12, BOWDOIN 11: Harry Stanton scored 2:26 into overtime to lift the Cardinals (9-3, 5-3 NESCAC) over the Polar Bears (9-3, 6-2) in Middletown, Connecticut.

Bowdoin trailed 11-8 with less than two minutes left in regulation before three straight goals by Shawn Daly tied the game with 21 seconds remaining.

Daly finished with four goals and one assist. Matthew Crowell added three goals.

WILLIAMS 17, COLBY 14: The Ephs (7-5, 4-4 NESCAC) scored three goals in a six-minute span of the fourth quarter to pull away from the Mules (3-9, 0-7) at Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Michael Fahey led Williams with four goals and an assist, Tanner MacIvor also had four goals, and Bryson Gilbert-Bono added two goals and three assists.

Alex Rutan had two goals and four assists for Colby.
