ORONO — Erin Bogdanovich tossed a two-hitter Sunday to lead the University of Maine to a 2-1 win over Binghamton in an America East softball game.

The Black Bears (17-15, 6-2) took two of three games in the weekend series against Binghamton (21-12, 7-2), with Bogdanovich (5-4) earning both victories.

Binghamton took the lead Sunday when pinch runner Bridget Hunt scored on a groundout in the second inning.

Maine answered with a pair of runs in the fourth. Janelle Bouchard extended her hitting streak to six games with a single to center, moved to second on a groundout and scored on Rachel Harvey’s single to left. Felicia Lennon followed with a double to the gap in right-center, bringing in Harvey with the go-ahead run.

Harvey and Lennon each went 2 for 3.

USM SWEEPS UNE: Shelby Obert doubled home two runs as Southern Maine (17-8-1) scored six times in the fifth inning to break a 4-4 tie en route to a 10-5 victory over the University of New England (19-9) in the first game of a doubleheader in Gorham.

Morgan Scavetta hit a three-run homer to lead USM to a 6-4 victory in the second game.

Obert finished with four RBI in the opener, while Courtney Davis added three hits, two RBI and two runs. Kelly Murphy had two RBI and Avery Alberghini scored two runs for UNE.

UNE’s Andrea Gosper hit a two-run single in Game 2, but the Nor’easters couldn’t overcome a 6-0 deficit.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS ST. JOSEPH’S (CONN.): Kyle McFadden and Kristal Smith each pitched a shut out as St. Joseph’s College (15-11, 10-4 GNAC) earned a pair of wins over the University of Saint Joseph (20-6, 10-2), beating the Blue Jays 1-0 and 4-0 in Standish.

The Monks ended the Blue Jays’ 15-game winning streak with their Game 1 victory. Megen Pollini singled home pinch runner Shannon Laubauskas with two out in the bottom of the fourth to account for the only run.

In the second game, the Monks grabbed an early lead when Jennifer Murphy roped a two-run double in the first inning.

Kylie McFadden allowed just four hits in the opener, and Smith pitched a three-hitter in Game 2.

THOMAS SWEEPS BATES: Faith Robinson and Haley Littlefield combined on a four-hitter as Thomas (10-13) recorded a mercy-rule victory over Bates (0-22) in the first game of a doubleheader in Waterville, winning 12-1 in five innings.

Courtney Veilleux banged out five hits, five RBI and scored twice in Game 2 as the Terriers completed the sweep with a 12-11 win in eight innings.

Bates took an 11-9 lead in the top of the eighth when Karen Lockhart singled home Marina Barsoum and Andrea Russo scored on Madison Fox’s sacrifice fly. But the Terriers countered with a three-run rally in the bottom half, capped by Veilleux’s two-run single.

Veilleux hit a two-run homer during a nine-run third inning in the opener. Michaella Arsenault contributed a two-run single.

MAINE 7, MARYLAND-BALTIMORE COUNTY 5: Colin Ridley tripled home two runs and scored on Brenden Geary’s single as the Black Bears (10-23, 2-6 America East) rallied for five runs in the seventh inning to beat the Retrievers (16-16, 6-5) in Orono.

Maine trailed 3-1 before putting together two walks and four hits in the seventh inning. RBI singles by Jeremy Pena and Kevin Stypulkowski tied the game, and Ridley put the Black Bears ahead with his triple down the right-field line.

Pena added another RBI single in the eighth to make it 7-3 before the Retrievers answered with a pair of runs in the ninth.

Pena finished with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored.

Reliever Nick Silva earned the win, allowing three runs over the last five innings.

SOUTHERN MAINE 13, WHEATON 7: Brandon Martins went 4 for 5 with three RBI to lead a 19-hit attack as the Huskies (18-6) snapped a 10-game winning streak for Wheaton (21-7), in Gorham.

Sam Dexter and Paul McDonough added three singles apiece, with McDonough also scoring four runs. Kip Richard had a pair of hits and four RBI.

The Huskies broke the game open in the fourth inning when they sent 10 men to the plate, scoring five times to take a 9-2 lead. The rally was highlighted by Martins’ two-run single and an RBI single by Richard.

After the Lyons scored twice in the top of the sixth, the Huskies responded with four runs in the bottom half on a two-run single by Richard, an RBI double by Zarro and an RBI single by Nick Bowie.

COLBY SWEEPS PLYMOUTH STATE: Zach Ellenthal tripled home two runs and scored on Matt Mitchell’s single as Colby (9-15) scored three times in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-3 victory over Plymouth State (14-13) in the first game of a doubleheader in Waterville.

The Mules opened a 7-0 lead in the second game and held on for a 7-6 victory.

Ellenthal singled home Mitchell to start a five-run first inning for Colby in Game 2. Chris Sonberg had a three-run double during the rally.

The Mules added single runs in the third and fourth before Plymouth State pulled close with two in the fifth and four in the sixth.
