STANDISH — Megen Pollini led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single and later scored on an RBI single by Kelsy Gaddy to lift St. Joseph’s to a 2-1 win over Bowdoin in the second game of a nonconference softball doubleheader on Tuesday night in Standish.

The Monks (17-11) jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a home run by Melodie Bailey. Bowdoin rallied to tie the game on an RBI single by Julia Geaumont in the top of the third.

Kristal Smith gave up one unearned run on four hits and one walk while striking out three batters over five innings of relief to earn the win for the Monks.

In the opener Mariah Harrison had two hits, drove in two runs and scored once and Bailey added three hits and two runs scored to lead the Monks to a 5-2 victory.

Ali Miller and Caroline Rice drove in one run apiece for Bowdoin (14-12-2).

UMAINE: Left-handed pitcher Erin Bogdanovich was named the America East co-pitcher of the week.

Bogdanovich made two starts during the week and was 2-0 with nine strikeouts and a 0.64 ERA over 14 innings.

BASEBALL

MAINE 11, UM-PRESQUE ISLE 0: Danny Casals hit a three-run homer during a five-run second inning and added an RBI single during a four-run fifth inning as the Black Bears (10-23) cruised past the Owls (8-21) at Orono.

COLBY 5, HUSSON 4: Soren Hanson singled and scored on a one-out double by Andrew Currier in the bottom of the ninth inning and Jake Connelly closed out the game with six shutout innings of relief to lift the Mules (10-15) over the Eagles (15-13) in the first night game at the new Coombs Field in Waterville.

UMASS-BOSTON 7, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Dave Murphy hit a pair of homers and drove in three runs to lead the Beacons (15-12, 3-4) to a Little East win over the Huskies (18-7, 5-2) in Boston.

Nick DiBiase had the only two hits in the game for the Huskies.

BATES 6, UM-FARMINGTON 0: Seven pitchers combined on a one-hitter and the Bobcats (10-12) scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to down the Beavers (12-11) at Lewiston.

Brendan Fox sparked the fifth-inning rally for Bates with a two-run double and John Dinucci capped the scoring with a two-run homer.

The Bobcats also got an RBI triple from Sam Warren and an RBI single from Conor Reenstierna during the inning.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

ST. JOSEPH’S 19, EMMANUEL 6: Mary Leasure scored in the first minute of the game, and the Monks (12-2, 6-0) never trailed, defeating the Saints (9-3, 6-1) in a GNAC conference game in Standish.

Elyse Caiazzo scored six goals for the Monks, and teammate Kat Gadbois added five goals and three assists.

MIT 18, SOUTHERN MAINE 12: Cecilia McCormick and Hannah Levy scored five goals apiece to lead the Engineers (10-3) over the Huskies (3-8) at Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Sarah Pelligrinelli scored four goals for the Huskies and Sam Campobasso, Heather Everett and Kenzie Kidder added two goals apiece.

TUFTS 6, BATES 5: Calie Nowak scored with 10 seconds left in the game to lift the Jumbos (7-6, 3-5) to a NESCAC win over the Bobcats (10-3, 5-3) in a back and forth game at Medford, Massachusetts.

After falling behind 5-4 with 10:52 remaining, the Bobcats rallied to tie the game on a goal by Caille Belletete with 5:57 remaining.

Sydney Howard scored a pair of goals for the Bobcats.

MEN’S LACROSSE

BATES 19, TUFTS 18: Charlie Fay scored in double overtime to lead the Bobcats (9-3, 5-3) to a NESCAC win over the Jumbos (11-2, 7-1) at Lewiston.

Bates rallied from a 12-7 halftime deficit, and Fay’s goal with 2:48 remaining in double overtime completed the Bobcats’ comeback and handed the Jumbos their first conference loss of the season.

Fay led the way for Bates with six goals, and teammate Kyle Weber scored four goals to go along with two assists.
