It was so refreshing to see such a positive picture at the “top of the fold” on the front page in the April 13 edition.
The article was on the state economy, but what grabbed me was the accompanying photo of a small child, feet dangling in the air, curled up in a bookcase, engrossed in reading a book. Yes, Virginia, children still read books, turn pages and are absorbed in the process.
As a former teacher of small children, I am encouraged by the paper placing this picture front and center and pleased that the photographer submitted it to you.
The ongoing news cycle of violence, politics and terror does not stop, but publishing a heartwarming photo should get some recognition. So here it is, Portland Press Herald!
