In my opinion, to more than double the salary of the governor, as Gov. LePage has called for, is way out of line. If one were to justify this raise by the accomplishments of the current governor, it would be very hard to increase it more than 1 or 2 percent.

In the real world, one gets a raise for outstanding performance; if one is lucky, one gets a cost-of-living adjustment.

The governor opposed raises for poor workers who earn $7.50 an hour and had the gall to propose a $150,000 salary for the top government job. What a hoot! It makes one wonder what world this man lives in.

If you multiply $7.50 times 40 hours, it equals $300 a week; times 4.2 weeks times 12 months, you get $15,120 a year. I challenge our elected leaders and our governor to live on that yearly wage.

I will admit that the governor’s salary is low. Why not bring the salary up in steps of 15 percent a year until we reach the salary that is appropriate for the position of governor? This would be more palatable for the taxpayers of this state.
