As a Portland resident and voter, I look for leaders who are seeking office because they want to make things better for everyone, not just for themselves.

I’ve been thoroughly impressed with Rep. Diane Russell, whose public and behind-the-scenes work is focused on helping real people in her district – families, veterans, tenants.

She’s built a national reputation for strong advocacy and smart coalition-building. She can find common ground with people from all parties, and move forward toward agreements. She’s taken on issues like student debt, jobs, drug addiction and health care – real issues that affect real people in Portland right now.

I’ve come to know her, as many others have, as a kind, smart person who brings compassion and, where appropriate, a sense of humor to her service. I encourage you to learn more about Russell and to vote for her for Maine Senate in the June 14 Democratic primary.
