Maine Medical Center announced new co-directors of the hospital’s breast care center in Scarborough.
Paige Teller, M.D., is a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist. Chiara Battelli, M.D., is a fellowship-trained medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer. Both Teller and Battelli return to Maine after having completed part of their specialized training at MMC.
Teller, a physician with Maine Medical Partners, recently served as the co-director of Breast Care Services for Atrius Health-Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston. Battelli, a physician with New England Cancer Specialists, joined the hospital’s medical staff in 2013.
Maya Ramirez, M.D., a bariatrician, has joined Central Maine Bariatric Surgery in Lewiston.
Ramirez obtained certification in functional medicine in 2014 and became board certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine in 2016.
Acadia Benefits Inc. has hired Mike Burton as vice president of business development.
Burton has more than 25 years of experience in the health care industry. He will be focusing on bringing creative solutions to help control the cost of employee benefits for Maine firms.
PROMOTIONS
Martha Searchfield joined the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce as the new executive director.
Searchfield, of Bar Harbor, has been serving as interim director since January.
AWARDS and RECOGNITIONS
The National Rural Health Association recently named Bridgton Hospital a top 20 critical access hospital in quality performance.
Bridgton Hospital scored best among critical access hospitals based on iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength Index for Quality. Its ranked in the top 20 out of more than 1,300 rural and critical access hospitals throughout the United States.
Mount Desert Island Hospital was named Trauma System Hospital of the Year by Maine Emergency Medical Services in Augusta.
Deborah Hoch of Maine Medical Center was recognized with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners 2016 State Award for Excellence.
Hoch, of Kennebunk, has worked at MMC for 14 years in its division of transplant medicine.
New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland recently presented several awards at its annual Employee Appreciation Day.
David Hesselink of Portland, an occupational therapist, received the Buzz Fitzgerald Award.
Nancy Lizotte of Brunswick, a certified rehabilitation registered nurse, was selected as clinician of the year.
Pamela Pelletier of Raymond, a CNA, was chosen as outstanding employee of the year. Bonnie Deveau of Gorham, director of quality and risk management, received the leadership award.
Tim Daigle of South Portland, a nutrition manager, was recognized with the rehabilitation services award.
Joe Dacey of Scarborough, a certified rehabilitation registered nurse, was awarded the Sandra Marriner Certified Rehabilitation Nurse of the Year Award.
