No. 2 Cape Elizabeth skunked No. 3 Yarmouth at home on Friday, June 3, winning all three of the teams’ singles matchups as well as both doubles contests.

In singles action, Liv Clifford trumped Morgan Hamre 6-3, 6-3; Katie Gilman defeated Danielle Laverdiere 6-0, 6-1; and Erin Whitcome walloped Mairen O’Neill 6-0, 6-0.

On the doubles side, Maddie Bowe and Sarah O’Connor sailed past Liz Clark and Abby Smith 6-2, 6-2, and Emelie Jarquin/Taylor Hansen beat Syndey Mogel-Campbell and Clementine Blaschke 6-1, 6-3.

“We’re very happy about this win,” said Cape head coach Sarah Boeckel. “We had a tough loss to Yarmouth in the quarterfinals last year, and lost to them earlier this season. We knew we could play better than we did. I think we feel a bit of relief with this win! I’m very proud of the girls; they work hard every day and all have the same goals. We’re looking forward to playing in the Western Maine finals on Thursday.”

The Capers travel to Bates on June 9 for their Regional title bout with York. The upstart Wildcats entered the tournament ranked eighth at 6-6.
