I’m glad to hear General Motors is working to develop lighter models of their vehicles. With gas prices on the rise again and global warming getting worse, we must do all we can to transition from polluting fossil fuels.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan, which sets the first-ever federal limits on pollution from power plants, will significantly clean up our energy sector. However, we also must reduce our global warming pollution from the second largest emitter, transportation, if we’re serious about addressing global warming.

So we need to build on work like GM’s and push for cleaning up our cars and trucks. We can do this by supporting federal standards for making our everyday cars and big trucks more energy efficient – the technology is already there.

Only through cleaning up both our electric sector and our cars and trucks can we actually prevent the worst impacts of global warming.
