Where is it?
A century ago, South Windham Village was home to several mills and a thriving commercial district, with public transportation, churches, banks, grocery stores, dry cleaner, laundry, and other shops – much like North Windham is today. On Monday, July 18, the Windham Historical Society hopes to identify some century-old photographs taken in the village area, including the Little Falls neighborhood. The public and especially anyone who lived in that area is invited to help in this detective work. A brief business meeting is slated for 7 p.m., and it’s expected that the mystery photo project will begin around 7:30 p.m. at the historical society headquarters and museum on Windham Center Road. The public is invited to attend. Call 650-7484 for more information or email Kay at kso48@aol.com.

Members of the Board of Directors for the new Evergreen Credit Union, managers of the architecture and construction crews and Windham Town Manager Tony Plante gathered July 7 to break ground on a new environmentally friendly facility at 785 Roosevelt Trail. The credit union, which has owned and operated a facility on Route 302 for 15 years, is constructing an LEED-certified building at the site, joining approximately 170 certified facilities (including homes) around the state. The company “couldn’t be more thrilled,” said interim CEO Tim Verrault, fourth from right. He estimates that the new facility will open in February. Until then, the credit union will operate in a temporary facility in the parking lot.
