OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach Surge were defeated by visiting the Watertown Bucks with a final score of 10-5 in 11 innings in their season finale on Sunday night at The Ballpark.

The Bucks would take a 1-0 lead in the third inning, off an RBI single from shortstop Ricky Perez.

The Surge would quickly tie it in the bottom of the third off an RBI single from left fielder Brandon Cooksey.

The Bucks (35-21) would take 3-1 lead in the fourth inning. Center fielder Jose Garcia knocked an RBI single and infielder John Ascenzia picked up an RBI on a sac fly to right field.

Cooksey would get the Surge within one run in the fifth, picking up his second RBI of the night. The Surge would take a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning. Designated hitter Bryan White would pick up an RBI on a bases loaded walk, infielder Joshua Martinez picked up an RBI on a fielder’s choice and newly acquired in fielder James Wong would pick up an RBI on a sac fly.

Watertown would score two runs in the eighth, off a 2-run single from catcher Brian McKenna, to tie it 5-5.

The game would remain tied until the 11th inning, with the Bucks picking up five runs to take a 10-5 lead. Ascenzia, Calvin Graves, and Johnny Cole each had RBI singles, while Collis Hunt knocked a 2-run single.

Starter Matt Kostalos tossed for six innings, allowing three runs on five hits while walking six and striking out five. Lefty Eric Kline would come in for the seventh, striking out the side. Ron Schreurs would come in for the eighth, allowing two runs on one hit, while walking two and striking out one. Stephen Frey came in for the ninth, tossing for three complete innings. Frey allowed five runs on seven hits while walking none and striking out four.

The Surge close out their second overall season – and first in the Empire League – with a 27-29 record.
