A hands-on fair for all

Touch a Truck will be held, rain or shine, Saturday Sept. 17, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., in the Gray Plaza Parking lot. While families explore multiple types of vehicles and modes of transportation, they can also enjoy face painting, raffles, hot dogs, cookies, treats and drinks. Donations will be gratefully accepted for the Gray Community Food Pantry. Sponsored by Gray Shop and Save.

John Ford Sr., retired Maine Warden, author of “Suddenly the Cider Didn’t Taste So Good” and “This Cider Still Tastes Funny,” and Mark Nickerson, retired Maine State Trooper, author of “Blue Lights in the Night,” return to the library on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m., with more of their delightful and humorous stories. Donnell Carroll, executive director of the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad, will visit on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. and present “Preserving Yesterday’s Era, for Tomorrow’s Generations.”

Autumn recreation

Kids in grades 2-6 can learn the fundamentals of musical theater from 3-5:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Sept. 22 through Dec. 8. Covered will be basics of acting in addition to vocal technique and simple choreography skills that they can use in any future productions. Students will showcase what they’ve learned in a performance of songs and scenes from one of their favorite musicals, “Beauty and the Beast.” Laurel Jordan will instruct the class, which will be held at Burchard A. Dunn School.

Zumba Gold will be held from 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday for ages 18-100 at the Newbegin Community Center Gym. This class is perfect for the beginner and older, active adults who are looking for a modified class that re-creates the original moves you love at a lower intensity. The class focuses on all elements of fitness; cardiovascular, muscle conditioning, flexibility and balance.

Rick Charette and grandparents

The Maine Wildlife Park will feature a Rick Charette Concert on Saturay, Sept. 10, from 11 a.m.-noon His performances blend original contemporary pop music and lyrics with imaginative activities that generate all kinds of audience participation. Charette will sign autographs and sell CDs after the show. The concert will be held  rain or shine and is sponsored by Cole Farms Restaurant and Main Line Fence. National Grandparent’s Day will be celebrated at the park on Sunday, Sept.11, at 9:30 a.m. There will be free admission for grandparents accompanied by their grandchildren. Meet other business owners

The Gray Community Economic Development Committee will be hold a Creating Community Gathering on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m., hosted by Norway Savings Bank.

The CEDC would like to hear your thoughts and suggestions for the improvement and expansion of established businesses in the community, attracting new businesses and the general economic and social welfare of the town. This event is open to the entire Gray community.

At the Town Office

The Town of Gray Honor Roll is intended to be awarded to persons who, during the course of their lifetimes, demonstrated exceptional dedication, service or other contribution to the town.

Nominations are only accepted for persons deceased a minimum of five years at the time of application. The honoree is required to have lived in Gray at some point. Submit a nomination by Oct. 1 at “honor-roll-nomination” on the town’s website.

The town has received a $8,526 dividend check from the Maine Municipal Association as a result of its good loss experience and loss prevention programs.

Posted on Aug. 25, Fiscal Year 2017 tax bills are now available on the website and will begin being mailed next week. Generally, tax bills are issued in mid-August with the first half due the first week in October and the second half due the first week of the following April. Changes on your bill are part of the ongoing Equalization Project. For more information, go to the town’s website and check out the September.2016 newsletter, “News About Town.”

This October, the Community Development Department will survey all property owners in Gray to update the transportation and land use sections of the 2003 Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan provides the long-range vision for the town for the next 10 to 15 years and functions as the “blueprint” for guiding policy decisions. The survey gives property owners the opportunity to express opinions about the town. The survey will be conducted electronically via any computer with internet service. The survey link will be active from Sept. 30-Oct. 28. If you do not have a computer with internet service, there are several computers available for public use at the Gray Public Library.
