Freeport — The YMCA of Southern Maine invites all community members to try classes and facilities for free on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. during their “Whole Family, Whole Health” celebration at their Biddeford, Portland, Freeport and New Gloucester branches. Attendees at Saturday’s event will receive a complimentary Y Family Pass for use through Oct. 7.

The “Whole Family, Whole Health” event is designed to introduce the community to the Y’s holistic approach to building personal and community wellness. The nonprofit has operated in Maine since 1853 and offers a variety of services, including early learning readiness, before-and-after-school care, summer camps, adaptive services for individuals recovering from illness and injury, housing, and military family support, in addition to their fitness classes, gym and aquatic facilities.

“We want the community to see for themselves that the Y is a place for people from all walks of life to learn, grow and thrive,” said Y CEO Helen L. Breña. “Whether you’re interested in creating quality family time, setting a personal best, recovering from an illness, or connecting with community, the Y is here for you.”

To support busy parents and caregivers investing in their own well-being, during peak hours the Y provides “While You’re Here Childcare,” known as Y Prime Time, allowing parents to use the facilities while their children enjoy supervised playtime.
