FAIRFIELD (AP) — Maine state police have charged a man with murder following the discovery of his wife’s body.

Police say they took Luc Tieman into custody Wednesday. He’s charged in the death of Valerie Tieman, whose body was 200 to 300 yards behind the home of her in-laws.

A state police spokesman says cadaver dogs found the body within minutes of beginning a search outside the home Tuesday. A medical examiner is performing an autopsy.

Valerie Tieman was a Greenville, South Carolina, high school graduate whose parents live in Greenville County. She was reported missing by her parents Sept. 9. Maine state police joined the investigation last week.

Luc Tieman was arrested in Waterville after spending the night in a motel. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer. He can’t be reached for comment while in custody.
