ORONO — Mitchell Fossier scored the go-ahead goal with 10:29 remaining and Maine got three unanswered goals in the third period Saturday night to earn a 4-2 men’s hockey victory over RPI.

RPI (0-2) tallied a short-handed goal 5:35 into the game. The Black Bears (2-0) tied it 10 minutes later when Blaine Byron scored on an assist from Cam Brown.

The Engineers regained the lead 5:23 into the second period and stayed in front until Daniel Perez made it 2-2 at 5:50 of the third period, assisted by Patrick Shea and Ryan Smith.

Chase Pearson’s empty-net goal with eight seconds left secured the victory.

Rob McGovern finished with 39 saves for the Black Bears. Chase Perry made 37 saves for the Engineers.

Megan Baker made seven saves for the Monks.

BOWDOIN 1, TRINITY 0: Mettler Growney broke a scoreless tie in the 68th minute as the Polar Bears (9-1, 5-1 NESCAC) beat the Bantams (8-2, 4-2) in Brunswick.

BATES 1, CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 0: Lauren Foster scored off a pass from Taylor Lough seven minutes into overtime as the Bobcats (6-5, 3-5 NESCAC) beat the Camels (1-9, 1-6) in Lewiston.

CONNECTICUT COLLEGES 2, BATES 1: Pat Devlin scored two goals, including the winner in double overtime, as the Camels (8-2, 4-2 NESCAC) beat the Bobcats (3-6-2, 1-6-1) in Lewiston.

Peder Bakken scored in the first half to give Bates a 1-0 lead. Devlin tied it in the second half.

PLYMOUTH STATE 6, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Dan Shaw and Nick Rutherford each scored a pair of goals as the Panthers (4-6-1, 2-4-1 Little East) beat the Huskies (1-9-3, 0-4) in Plymouth, New Hampshire.

Agbonsalo Osarumwens gave USM a 1-0 lead in the first half.

UNE cut the deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Ryan Stephens with 8:05 left.

COLBY 4, WESLEYAN 0: Merrill Read, McKayla Blanch and Meredith Keenan scored in the second half as the Mules (4-6, 2-5 NESCAC) pulled away from the Cardinals (2-8, 0-5) in Waterville.

UNITY 4, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 3: Mariza Gionfriddo scored the go-ahead goal with 50 seconds left as the Rams (5-3-1, 5-1 YSCC) rallied to beat the Seawolves (4-6, 2-4) in South Portland.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

BOSTON COLLEGE 2, MAINE 1: Caitrin Lonergan’s goal 38 seconds into the second period proved decisive as the Eagles (1-1-1) beat the Black Bears (1-4) in a Hockey East opener in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

Maine tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Kristin Gilmour, but gave up the go-ahead goal just 23 seconds later.

Carly Jackson had 42 saves for Maine.
