SCARBOROUGH — On the evening of September 30th, 2016, Barbara Jean Gruninger, 64, Resident of Rangeley, Maine, passed away peacefully, after a long battle of lung cancer while being cared for at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Barbara was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on August 29,1952, daughter of Harvey and Barbara Charleston. She lived in Braintree, Massachusetts, where she spent most of her time climbing trees and caring for two abandoned raccoons Tubby and Tony. Ever summer she spent her time on Webber Pond in Vassaboro, Maine,where she enjoyed spending time with her family and her best friend , Beth Phillips. Barbara enjoyed waters skiing, boating, fishing, ghost stories by the campfire, exploring in the woods and collecting rocks from rivers. Barbara was very spiritual and was a lover of all things Native American but her greatest love was her grandchildren, Hannah for her creativity and kindness and Jackson for his strength and loving soul.

She is survived by her daughter Stephanie Walker of Phippsburg, Me, her two grandchildren Hannah and Jackson Walker of Phippsburg, Maine; two brothers, Bill Charleston of Jackson, NJ and Russell Charleston of Dover, NH.

Thank you to all of those friends and workers that looked after her in Rangeley. Thank you to Chans Hospice, Androscoggin Hospice, Freeport Nursing Home, and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Morse High School Athletics. A service will be scheduled for next summer.
