BIDDEFORD — Jessica Meader scored a goal in each half to lead the the University of New England women’s soccer team, which cruised past Southern Maine 5-0 in a non-conference game on Tuesday.

The Nor’easters improve to 8-3-1, 4-0-1 while the Huskies drop to 4-9 and 0-4.

Meader opened the scoring just 2:27 into the game as she was set up by Becca Murphy and Anna Michaud and put a low shot into the net from the top of the box.

Devon Wolfenden scored from Brianne Turcotte at 7:41, taking the feed and putting her shot in from 25 yards out, just inside the right post, and Turcotte rounded out the first-half scoring on a header of an Edie Pallozzi corner kick.

Meader’s second goal of the game came early in the second half from Wolfenden and Murphy. Murphy added an unassisted goal.

Taylor Canastra stopped 12 shots for Southern Maine (4-9), while Emily Ashman had to make just one save to earn the shutout for the Nor’easters

COLBY 4, UMAINE-FARMINGTON 0: Catherine Fraser scored a pair of goals to lead the Mules (6-5) over the Beavers (6-7) in Farmington.

Emily Martin and Emilie Klein added goals for the Mules, who led 3-0 at halftime.

Colby keeper Samantha Rizzo made one save to record her second consecutive shutout and fourth of the season.

Kiana Thompson made 10 saves for the Beavers, who were outshot 22-7.

MEN’S SOCCER

COLBY 1, UNE 0: Kyle Douglas scored off an assist from Brandon Fahlberg 7:58 into the game and the Mules (5-6-2) held on to edge the Nor’easters (2-9-4) at Waterville.

Stanley Clarke made two saves to record the shutout. Colby outshot the Nor’easters 20-6.

UNE keeper Nate Delesdernier finished with four saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

SOUTHERN MAINE 7, SALEM STATE 0: Tayla Smedberg had two goals and a pair of assists to lead Huskies (7-8, 6-3 Little East) past the Vikings (1-10, 0-8) in a Little East Conference game at Salem, Massachusetts.

Kaylie Andrews had a pair of goals, Jennifer Poulin had a goal and an assist, and Makayla Garvin and Lindsay Jackson also found the net.

Elizabeth Amadei had to make just one save for the Huskies.
