SACO — Joseph Leo Belanger, 88, of Saco, died on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at the Monarch Center in Saco.

He was born in Sanford on Dec. 30, 1927, to Stanislas and Marie (Guillemette) Belanger. During his working life, he worked for Donovan and Donovan, and retired in 1989.

He was a member of the Air Corps. He was also a member of the Rochembeau Club for many years, and was a bass drum player for them.

Joseph enjoyed his retirement years at his camp. There were plenty of parties, and some lasted the whole weekend.

His hobbies included playing different card games, laughing, and having a good time. He also enjoyed riding his party boat and giving rides around the lake playing French music.

He will be missed but not forgotten.

He is survived by: a daughter, Paulette Gonneville and husband Ray; a son, Leo Paul Belanger and wife Diane; five brothers, Raymond Belanger of Waterboro, Roland Belanger of Florida, and Emile Belanger, Gerard Belanger, and Henry Belanger, all of Sanford; three sisters, Irene Melanson, Rose Melanson and Lorraine Thibodeau, all of Sanford; two granddaughters, Amanda and Samantha Gonneville; two grandsons, Casey and Jesse Belanger; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Holy Family Church of St. Thérèse Parish of Lisieux, 66 North Ave., Sanford. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
