There have been many misleading, contradictory pieces about legalizing marijuana for recreational use. It’s good to have factual information, such as Dr. Christine Bennett’s Oct. 8 letter, regarding the impact of drugs on young brains, which are known to still be developing into a person’s mid-20s.

Then there are various public health reports regarding the need and importance of work ethic and motivation, which are hindered by the impeding of optimal brain function caused by any and all drug use.

Marijuana is a drug, and the idea of allowing it to be used recreationally is preposterous for developing and growing minds. The act of “normalizing” this drug, for use when they’re older, in the minds of youth is outrageous.

I’ve read about the concerns of the cost of policing marijuana and drugs in general, but I know that legalizing it for recreational use actually disempowers police to serve and protect the public in general.
