Do you really want Maine to be known as the state with the second- highest top tax rate in the country? That’s what will happen if you and enough others vote “Yes” on Question 2 on Nov. 8.

Yes, the state will get a bit more revenue for a couple of years if it passes, but in the long run the effect will be just the opposite.

The state already loses millions from people who have changed their legal residence. If Question 2 passes, not only will more people make another state their residence, but small businesses also will move out of state and new businesses will certainly opt for a different state.

The tax impacts small businesses as well as individuals. Moreover, the tax does not force the Legislature to allocate any more money to school support than it does now.

Be smart. Think long term, not short term. Vote “No” on Question 2.
