SANFORD — A 28-year-old Sanford man was being held on $25,000 bail following his arrest Friday in connection with an attempted robbery of the Sanford Super 8 motel in 2015.

Sanford police arrested Ryan J. Harris on a warrant charging one count of felony robbery, Detective Sgt. Matthew Jones said. Harris was being held at York County Jail, and faces a bail hearing Monday, Jones said.

Police responded to a report of an armed robbery of the Super 8 at 1892 Main St., at about 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 24, 2015. Armed with a knife, the suspect demanded money from the clerk. The robbery failed, and the suspect fled on foot. Surveillance video was widely circulated, and the case was featured on national TV.

Harris was identified as a suspect within weeks of the robbery, Jones said. “Several things led us to Harris,” the detective said in an email. “Most importantly were some key people coming forward who had intimate knowledge of the crime. There were many complexities to this long investigation, but I am happy to see all the efforts finally culminate in (Friday’s) arrest.”
