Democrat Lois Galgay Reckitt, 71, is running unopposed for the House District 31 seat representing part of South Portland. A retired nonprofit executive who is married, Reckitt has a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University and a master’s degree from Boston University, according to a Portland Press Herald survey.

Reckitt is a longtime citizen activist and lobbyist for a variety of issues. Her work in the fields of domestic violence and women’s rights won her placement in the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame in 1998. She also has been involved for decades in the struggle for gay rights and has “a deep understanding of the fragility of our precious marine environment and its importance to Maine’s economy.”
