SOUTH PORTLAND — Business and community leaders are seeking sponsors to “adopt” families and help make the upcoming holidays brighter for dozens of children.
The South Portland Christmas Toy Drive is being coordinated by members of South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Buy Local with assistance from the school and police departments.
Last year the drive benefited nearly 200 South Portland children, said Liz Darling, business manager at Maine Roofing Inc.
Sponsors will be asked to specify the number of children they’d like to help. Drive organizers will provide coat and boot sizes for each child and a wish list of toys.
The group also seeks new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages. They should be dropped off before Dec. 7 at one of these businesses: Maine Roofing, 24 Bishop Ave.; Evelyn’s Tavern, 12 Sawyer St.; Port Harbor Marine, 1 Spring Point Drive; Local Acapulco, 340 Main St.; or Peoples United Bank, 15 Hinkley Drive.
Drive organizers also will accept financial contributions. Make checks payable to South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Buy Local and write “2016 Toy Drive” on the memo line. Mail donations to: South Portland Christmas Toy Drive, c/o Maine Roofing Inc., 24 Bishop Ave., South Portland ME 04106.
