SANFORD — York Hospital plans to open a care clinic on an 11.29-acre parcel it purchased in July. The facility to be located on Main Street (Route 109) in south Sanford is planned to open by mid-2017.

The care clinic will offer walk-in care, a lab and X-rays, said York Hospital Marketing Director Jody Merrill. She said the center will be open daily, with convenient hours.

The walk-in clinic will be the second to locate in Sanford. Southern
Maine Health Care opened a walk-in care clinic Sept. 7, which saw more than
1,000 patients in its first month of operation. The clinic is in the
Goodall Medical Office building on the SMHC campus on June Street.

York Hospital purchased the Maine Street parcel, just beyond the roundabout, in July, but has kept mum on its plans until now.

The York Hospital clinic will be located about 4 miles from the SMHC walk-in care facility. York Hospital operates a walk-in care and emergency care center in Wells, about 10 miles from the site it plans in Sanford, and has a facility in South Berwick

Merrill, in an email Thursday, said the hospital will request approval from Sanford’s Planning Board soon and is currently working on the site plan to define parking and the entrance.

She said York Hospital is eyeing the addition of primary care services in the future.

“We’re looking forward to increasing health care access and offering conveniently located York Hospital services for patients in the Sanford community,” she said.

“We’re always up for more investment in Sanford and they’re a strong company,” Sanford Regional Economic Growth Council Director Jim Nimon said following York Hospital’s purchase of the Sanford land in July.
