I’m hopeful about one Maine decision this November – passing Question 5. Regardless of who you voted for in the presidential election, a lot of folks were generally displeased with both major candidates.

The biggest enemy during the campaigns were not the candidates themselves, but the two-party system and the stranglehold it has on our debating and voting process.

Passing Question 5 creates a ranked-choice voting system and gives some of this power back to the portion of the public that is motivated enough to get out and vote.

We are the first state in the country to pass this measure. I’m hopeful that we have taken the first step in a larger trend that will give more voice to voters and less power to a select few.
