PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas — Donovan Mitchell scored 14 points Thursday, including two critical 3-pointers in the final 4½ minutes to help No. 10 Louisville beat Wichita State, 62-52.

Quentin Snider also scored 14 for the Cardinals (5-0), who locked down defensively in the first half, then turned away the Shockers’ second-half comeback.

Trailing 33-17 at the half and by 16 with about 14 minutes left, Wichita State (5-1) hit three straight 3-pointers to get back in it and twice got within six. But the Cardinals repeatedly came up with timely offensive rebounds or baskets to keep control.

Wichita State shot just 32 percent for the game while Louisville – which shot 37 percent – helped itself by making 17 of 23 free throws and taking a 46-33 rebounding advantage.

Markis McDuffie and Shaquille Morris each scored 10 for the Shockers.

(11) GONZAGA 82, QUINNIPIAC 62: Jonathan Williams and Zach Collins led a balanced offense with 13 points apiece, helping Gonzaga (5-0) pull away from Quinnipiac (0-3) at Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

The Bulldogs also got 10 points each from Jordan Mathews and Josh Perkins.

Gonzaga used a 12-2 spurt to open a 37-25 lead late in the first half. Silas Nelson’s basket put the Bulldogs up 48-35 with just under 15 minutes to go, and the closest Quinnipiac got after that was 10.

(19) WEST VIRGINIA 89, ILLINOIS 57: Nathan Adrian had 13 points and eight rebounds as West Virginia (4-0) beat Illinois (4-2) at New York.

Jevon Carter added 10 points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists for the Mountaineers.

(20) BAYLOR 73, (24) MICHIGAN STATE 58: Johnathan Motley scored 20 of his 26 points in the first half and Baylor (5-0)dominated after halftime to beat Michigan State (3-3) at Paradise Island, Bahamas.

Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. added 14 points and eight rebounds, nearly all in the second half, for the Bears (5-0), who sprinted out of the break with a 12-2 run on the way to shooting 55 percent in the second half. That quickly turned a 33-30 halftime deficit into a double-digit lead.

(21) IOWA STATE 73, INDIANA STATE 71: Monte Morris scored 20 points and Iowa State (4-0) took the lead for good in the final minute before holding off Indiana State (2-2) at Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Joe Thomas shrugged off a poor shooting performance to put the Cyclones ahead with a 3-pointer with 54 seconds remaining. Nazareth Mitrou-Long made 1 of 2 free throws with 7.6 seconds left, and Indiana State’s hope for an upset ended when Brenton Scott’s 3-pointer rimmed out at the buzzer.

TEMPLE 89, (25) FLORIDA STATE 86: Quinton Rose scored 26 points, including two free throws with two seconds left, to lead Temple (3-2) over Florida State (5-1) at New York.

Shizz Alston Jr. added 22 points, and Obi Enechionyia finished with 16 points and eight rebounds for the Owls.

FOOTBALL

(25) LOUISIANA STATE 54, (22) TEXAS A&M 39: Derrius Guice ran for a school-record 285 yards with four touchdowns, and Danny Etling threw for 324 yards and two scores to give short-handed LSU (7-4, 5-3 Southeastern) a victory over Texas A&M (8-4, 4-4) at College Station, Texas.

The Tigers were playing without star running back Leonard Fournette and leading tackler Kendell Beckwith because of injuries. But Guice and Etling gave the Tigers a 300-yard passer and a 200-yard rusher in the same game for the first time in school history.
