Music teacher in top 25 of nominees for U.S. honor

Biddeford Middle School music teacher Amy Delorge has been chosen as one of 25 semifinalists, from a field of 2,000 teachers nationwide, to be nominated for recognition as Music Educator of the Year.

Among the 11 nominees from Maine, Delorge was the only one to advance to the semifinals.

The award recognizes music teachers for their outstanding achievement in music education.

In nominating Delorge, a music teacher for 24 years, Hope, Paul and Carter Burnell wrote, “Amy is a leader who believes anything is possible. Her sense of optimism and unwavering commitment to the community she serves create an environment in which everyone is welcome, everyone can learn, and everyone can be successful.”

The winner of the award will be named on Dec. 15 at the Chicago Midwest International Band Clinic.
