LEWISTON — Nina Davenport scored a game-high 22 points to go along with 13 rebounds and four assists, as Bates held off the University of New England for a 60-57 women’s basketball win at Lewiston on Monday.

Bernadette Connors, who scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half, gave Bates (2-1) a 53-45 lead with 5:59 left with a 3-pointer.

The Nor’easters (3-2) fought back with a 12-4 run to make it 59-57 with 14 seconds left on a pair of free throws by Sam MacDonald. UNE had a chance to tie, or take the lead with a 3-pointer, but turned the ball over with nine seconds left.

Alicia Brown led four double-digit scorers for New England with 14 points. Ashley Coneys added 11, while MacDonald and Sadie Nelson each had 10.

NOTRE DAME AND UConn still sit atop The Associated Press women’s basketball poll while Colorado, Auburn and Texas A&M all entered the Top 25 for the first time this season.

The Irish remain No. 1 with the Huskies right behind them. Notre Dame received 16 first place ballots with UConn getting 14. Third-ranked South Carolina garnered the other three from a 33-member national media panel on Monday.

Baylor and Maryland each moved up one spot to round out the first five teams.

Mississippi State, Louisville, Florida State, Ohio State and UCLA are the next five teams.

Colorado entered at No. 21 with Auburn No. 23. It’s the Tigers first ranking since 2009. Texas A&M came in at No. 25.

Arizona State, Michigan State and Gonzaga all fell out.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

DARTMOUTH 4, MAINE 0: Christina Rombaut had a goal and an assist as the Big Green (2-5-0) cruised to a win over the Black Bears (3-12-1) at Alfond Arena in Orono.

Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead 8:46 into the first period on a goal by Brooke Ahbe on passes from Eleni Tebano and Rombaut. Rose Falzone and Bailee Brekke each added goals in the second in a span of five minutes, and Rombaut scored 14:59 into the third to complete the scoring.

Maine generated 31 shots on net but could not break through against Dartmouth goalie Robyn Chemago.

Carly Jackson stopped 30 shots for Maine.

MEN’s BASKETBALL

(1) KENTUCKY 115, ARIZONA STATE 65: Freshman De’Aaron Fox posted the second triple-double in school history with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to lead a dominating effort at Paradise Islands, Bahamas.

Fellow rookie Malik Monk scored 23 points for the Wildcats (7-0), who dominated an undersized team and quickly turned the game into a romping display of their athleticism and ability to run in transition.

Kentucky led by double figures roughly 6 minutes in, led 58-30 by halftime and scored the first 12 points after the break to go up 40 with 15 minutes left.

Sam Cunliffe scored 14 points for the Sun Devils (4-3), who shot just 34 percent while the Wildcats scored 21 points off turnovers.

(25) WEST VIRGINIA 108, MANHATTAN 61: Esa Ahamad scored 19 points in the final game of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Morgantown, West Virginia.

The Mountaineers (5-1) forced a school-record 40 turnovers, surpassing the 34 by VMI in 2014-15.

Nathan Adrian had 15 points for West Virginia, while Daxter Miles Jr. added 11 and James Long chipped in with 10.

Zavier Peart led the Jaspers (2-4) with 11 points.

KENTUCKY AND Villanova remain the top two teams in The Associated Press college basketball poll while Baylor made the week’s biggest jump, from No. 20 to ninth.

Kentucky (6-0) received 40 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel while Villanova was No. 1 on 20 ballots.

North Carolina (7-0), which moved up one place to third after winning the Maui Invitational, got four No. 1 votes.

Kansas, Duke and Virginia all moved up one place to fourth through sixth. Xavier moved up two places to seventh and Gonzaga went up three spots to eighth.

Baylor (6-0) got the other first-place vote and was followed in the Top 10 by Creighton.
