Books. Magazines. Legal advice?

Reference librarian Sonya Durney can help you with all three and more.

Durney, who works the research desk at Portland Public Library, spends much of her day consulting the library’s vast resources to answer visitors’ random questions – topics ranging from medical conditions to vintage fashions.

Her specialties are helping people with business startups and educating voters through the library’s Choose Civility program.

Durney earned a master’s degree in library and information sciences from Simmons College in Boston because she loves working with people and research. She is considering a return to the college to pursue a Ph.D. in library science.

A city employee, Durney earns about $40,000 a year.
