A Lincoln County man who allegedly choked a woman with a cord and used a stun gun on her has been arrested on domestic violence charges.

Christopher I. MacLennan, 36, of Newcastle is being held on $500 bail in the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on a felony charge of domestic violence aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of criminal restraint and domestic violence terrorizing.

Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry said in a press release Thursday that the 32-year-old victim was assaulted inside a motor vehicle that was going north on Route 201 in Bowdoin on Sunday evening. Several motorists reported that the vehicle was being driven in a “very erratic fashion.”

The woman escaped from the vehicle when MacLennan pulled to the side of the road. She stood in the middle of the road until two motorists stopped to assist her. Sgt. Dale Hamilton of the sheriff’s office arrived a short time later.

“She complained of being strangled with a cord, and alleged that either a Taser or stun gun was used on her body,” Merry said. The victim was taken to a local hospital.

MacLennan fled, but was eventually arrested by deputies. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information regarding it should contact Hamilton at 443-9711.
