Grandfathering existing solar system customers for only 15 years (as the Maine Public Utilities Commission has proposed) is like having the rug pulled out from under your feet (like Lucy in the “Peanuts” cartoon strip).
Any sensible new regulation always grandfathers most existing conditions. And why would anyone have an incentive to install solar if you lose all payback within 10 years?
I find it unbelievable that the great state of Maine would consider such backward-looking regulations. My wife and I own a farm in Standish that has been in her family for seven generations. We installed a 45-panel solar array last year on the 1880s barn.
If these proposed regulations were to be enacted, Maine’s business-friendly image would take a hit, affecting all residents and businesses negatively. Please ask your local legislator to support the solar community and not CMP, especially those who have and want to install solar systems.
