Seven years ago, I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and told by a local doctor that if I were his father, he would not put me through chemotherapy and radiation. In essence, I was a dead man. Fortunately, I got a second opinion at Massachusetts General Hospital and seven years later, I am cancer-free.
Just recently, I went to a chest doctor, locally, to check on my issues with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He tested me and immediately informed me that I had to go on oxygen 24 hours a day. After I balked, he allowed me to go on just at night.
I did that immediately but decided I needed a second opinion and got one in Massachusetts. That doctor ran the same test, got different results and told me there was no reason for me to be on oxygen. I came home and got a third opinion, which concluded the same thing.
Always get a second or third opinion. Every doctor I have asked said they would get a second or third opinion if it were a major issue. Don’t be a fool.
