Voters need to reject the proposed artificial turf field in Regional School Unit 5. Its potential to put users at higher risk for cancer is the focus of a federal investigation.

Studies show that once established, grass fields can save 25 percent in maintenance costs. Even the NFL is replacing artificial fields with grass, and the U.S Women’s Soccer team is refusing to play on artificial fields. If this product is bad for their health, imagine what it will do to our children. Last time I checked, grass was not listed as a toxic substance.

We have already said “no” and have just taken on a $17 million debt for the high school renovation project. Enough is enough! Our taxes are high enough, thank you, RSU 5.

I also believe that putting these questions to a special election was a political strategy. It could have been on the November ballot, but the project’s supporters believe that people are too lazy to come out and vote “no” on a different date.

I hope you will prove them wrong Tuesday and that this will be the last time we will have to say “no” to an artificial turf field.
